I think you are wrong here. Me personally I know at least 5 people who are absolutely not buying the sequel no matter what. I'm probably not the only one in this category. I will come out and say I am absolutely not buying GW2. I only browse here every once in a while to see whats going on with the game I used to love (and to see if there is a reason to log onto it again). Being here does not mean I will continue to support a company that disappoints me time after time. That does not mean that Guild Wars 2 won't be successful...it just means they will have to gather a lot of new fans to be considered as successful as Guild Wars 1.
I agree that a "boycott" will not work, which is why this is not a boycott thread. I am simply asking questions. But I would still like Anet to see it anyways...which is why it is quite sad that this got moved to off topic. The thread isn't even off topic...its about Guild Wars. Perhaps I am wasting my time browsing here still. Sigh.

It is off topic because it is about GW2 which should be on the other guru. Anyone who says they will never buy GW2 to quote an old phrase, "Is cutting their nose off to spite their face".

I can't see myself missing Guild Wars 2, I started GW relatively late, and like Trinity said, I would lurv to experience GW2 from the start. The only thing I have reservations for is the movement of titles/HoM stuff to GW2, as I personally (and I know some people who put so much work in GW1 will disagree) believe that the influence of GW1 and GW2 should be cut down to the minimum, to encourage new players and really make a fresh start on this series.
Also I wouldn't recommend players striking GW2 off so soon, when it comes to it you might just need to give it a go, and yes it will be a new game, but you have to understand it IS a new game, not an expansion to GW1.
I would also like to add that although the world vs world thing is available in WoW and a few other games, I'm sure that I would much rather play guild wars for free rather than waste $15/£10 a month on a game which is in my opinion not superior to Guild Wars, but possibly inferior, but thats a whole different debate.

I do think I will buy GW2. As much as I'm hating Guild Wars in it's current state, it does bring back amazing PvE memories when each campaign came out. The nerve racking missions that you need people to win and you are just hoping to finally beat it. Staying up very late just to do that impossible mission. Of course, I'm talking about when they first came out and people were most of the time clueless. The PvP will most likely be complete crap. Seriously now, if you're looking to buy it just for the PvP, you're crazy. Actually, for the PvP part, I'm 50/50. Honestly though, the more I think of it, the more excited I get. I just really want that feeling I got when first playing through the games. So yeah, I'm getting it. Playing Sylvari race fo' sho'. I realize this thread is for people NOT getting it, but I'm sorry. :[

No. Sure it is a thread about people not buying GW2...but more specifically it is about the REASONS for not buying GW2 which is often directly related to GW1. Regardless, it is certainly not an "off topic" thread.

It's still a year from any expected release. I'll let you know when it gets here. If I enjoy playing it, trial wise, I'll buy it. If not, no big deal. I don't care how evil Anet might be, or how some try to convince me they don't give a damn about anyone. They could be clubbing baby seals on a daily basis for all I care. I'm not interested in the corporate and I don't need them to send me hugs, kisses, or signs of affection. I don't need them to be sympathetic, nor do I need them to make me feel important. I don't need them to listen to me, or open a shoulder for me to lean on.
They're not my bank, or my insurance companies. I don't have any long term financial investment worthy of caring who is chairman of the board, who does what, or who doesn't do a thing. It's a game, period. I'll treat it as such. I'll base my decision on when the product arrives.
Good product=purchase. Bad product=no purchase. That simple.

To all the people flaming, have you considered that your die hard knowledge about how A-net of course should shape the game may not be right for the vast majority of players?
|
just wanted to point out in my opinion most of the flaming comes from the pvp side of gw (not saying pve doesn't have their amount) but since u dont play pvp please dont talk about the majority. Love it when people talk about the community of gw when one person isn't the Community plus this is an opinion based thread, everyone can say what they want
but still, as i said b4... Gotta at least play beta or have a trial period b4 we decide to get it or not right

Riverside Inn is for Guild Wars topics. GW2G is for Guild Wars 2 topics. The whole point of opening GW2G way before we got any solid information was so this site was not overrun by GW2 threads. Whether or not someone is going to buy GW2 is not a GW1 related topic, so it was moved here. If anything, this thread belongs on GW2G, not here. No, whoever moved the thread was not wrong.

Then I suggest the OP requests the thread be renamed to "Has GW1 influenced your decision to buy future ANet products?" or somesuch.

ok...I will check out the beta...and if it makes me sick, then I will for certain NOT buy gw2. Though from past game watching, MOST video games make me ill to just watch (gw did to a small extent when I first started, and rubberbanding still does)....just cant see spending money on a game that I wont be able to play--and if I am not getting it, neither will my husband as we bought these to play together.

It is a GW1 thread if part of the reason for not buying GW2 is because of reasons dealing with GW1 (which was half the point of the OP). If I made this thread on the GWG2 forums would it be considered off topic because people are talking about GW1? Ridiculous. Whoever moved this thread is still wrong.

A better question would have been, or atleast one of value:
Who is NOT buying GW2 upfront?
And that would be a completely different story. Anet (Martin) has already anounced GW will have LESS formats than it has now, and it will have world PvP or something similar.
Thus we can conclude that GW PvP will consist of GvG, AB (World PvP), RA (Most likely, unless the new World PvP is supposed to cross the gap between PvE and PvP) and a third/fourth (Wether or not RA will exist) playstyle of choice, be it HA or Codex.
Either way, it's been made clear that GW PvP will have to give in, if only on resources so far, alot of ground to PvE.
Point here being: Anet shouldn't be expecting too much revenue from the PvP scene, unless they can top GW Proph release PvP wise, which again is unlikely especially with the recent news. (But never say never I gues)
On top of that, with the recent nerfs to PvE farming builds, for every good reason only about 4 years too late, they set off alot of PvE'ers aswell.
I'm not going to say it had a major impact on the community, but Anet did give a strong message:
"We don't want people farming/speedclearing through elite areas"
which essentially means:
"We don't want bad people bashing some buttons for big rewards"
which WILL offset a large part of the PvE community (Because face it, the % of bad people in PvE land is ALOT higher than the % of bad people in PvP), because people in general simply love the brainless farmbuilds. (Why SF saw so much succes in the first place)
So they definatly lost some "upfront buyers" there aswell. So what will really be left for Anet?
A handfull of people (I still assume 100K+ with HoM addicts and such) will buy the game upfront, but unlike GW1 which enjoyed a major explosion in sales due to word of mouth advertisement on how good it (the PvP) was, GW2 isn't likely to follow the same path.
So you can't really give a definite anwsers (as opposed to games such as WoW which have a massive satisfied playerbase who will eat anything Blizzard feeds them) because Anet played with fire too long. It will simply come down to how good GW2 will be, even for the PvE scene to grow.
As I've said before: If GW is going to be a WoW clone, it simply isn't going to be better. And if it is, why would anyone still want to buy it over WoW which has proven time after time it CAN maintain a large playerbase with regular updates of high quality.
Point here being: GW PvE simply isn't going to come anywhere close to WoW or other major PvE games out there. Though I'm not saying this is what Anet wanted to achieved, I'm saying they missed out on alot of potential growth by letting the PvP scene die.
|
Everything this guy has said is 100% correct and I fully agree with all his statements.
I'm probably gonna buy GW2 but I'm not sure whether it'll be worth my money or not.

I completely agree. Rewarding people for completing elite areas/dungeons is just plain stupid! Instead they should get nothing, which would make clearing those areas pointless!
Why aren't you the lead designer for GW2?

Probably no because I'm still feeling burned by NCsoft due to their shoddy response to the security issue and due to their incredibly poor handling of Aion. ANet I like, they care and they try, but they are owned by NCsoft and I don't want to support that company with any more of my money.
I'll try the beta and make a definite decision after that, as I have enjoyed GW1 for four years and it's entirely possible that GW2 will be so sock-blowingly amazing that I'll be able to forget how sucky NCsoft is... but unless it really does blow my socks off I'm not buying it.

I'll buy it when it has released and ANET show they kept their promises! Pre-ordering is throwing your ONLY bargaining chip as a consumer down the toilet. With GW1, fans helped make it happen by supporting a new company, now they have hundreds of $m they can afford to put a good game out that people like without babying from the community.

I'll probably get it, and play it, but Guild Wars will forever have my heart. So many memories that you can't just toss aside... and the reading on GW2 makes me feel like it's going to be a knock off to WoW.
